At Jefferson Capital, we understand that the Covid-19 Pandemic has created a tremendous amount of uncertainty for everyone. As it relates to our day to day business operations, that includes the uncertainty faced by our clients, our vendors, our associates, and above all our account holders. Virtually nobody is untouched by the stress and challenge of maintaining their health and financial well-being during these extremely difficult times. It is certainly not business as usual.

In responding to these challenges, we’ve found internally that open and frank communications are usually the best way to identify challenges and implement solutions to the myriad of issues being faced daily. The first step is for our team members to reach out and communicate. The second, and perhaps even more important step, is for all of us to listen. We’ve found that solutions quickly follow.

Listening and identifying solutions is what we do. So now more than ever we would encourage all of our partners to reach out to us – both businesses and consumers. And as it particularly relates to our account holders, they are not alone. We are here to help. We encourage them to reach out to us and let us know how they have been affected. Our goal is to listen and work together to find solutions that work during these uncertain times.

We also want to pass along several resources that were released today by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. As the CFPB indicates, responsible financial companies are supporting their customers, and “consumers facing hardships should be aware of this posture and discuss their specific circumstances.” Please contact us and let us know your situation. Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC is an established Debt Buyer and Debt Collector.

After we acquire an account, we wait at least 90 days before we begin reporting to the credit bureaus.

However, we will not begin reporting on an account that meets both of the following criteria:

  • We have not yet started reporting the account, and
  • We begin receiving payment(s) within three months after we acquire the account.

Jefferson Capital is an analytically driven purchaser and servicer of consumer charged-off and bankruptcy accounts. JCap automatically provides updated account information to the credit bureaus every two weeks, on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.

  • Please allow sufficient time for any updated information to be reflected on your credit report.
  • If you are using a credit monitoring service, you should contact them to understand how frequently they provide updates to you.

We are required to stop reporting on an account and to delete our tradeline within seven years of the delinquency date.

We also stop reporting and will request that the credit bureaus delete our tradeline on any account that is paid in full or paid in full for less than the full balance. Our request to delete the tradeline will occur approximately 30 days after your final payment is posted.

If you see our tradeline on your credit report, it is because we have acquired your account.

The credit bureaus do not require us to contact an account holder before we begin reporting account information. However, after we acquire an account we do wait at least 90 days before we start credit reporting.

The credit bureaus require us to report the date we acquire the account as the “Open Date”. Please know, however, that this “Open Date” does not affect how long our tradeline may appear on your credit report. Please see “When does JCap stop reporting to the credit bureaus” for additional information concerning how long our tradeline might appear on your credit report.

Some creditors may choose to report an account as “sold/transferred” even though we have acquired it and also started reporting on it.

Your original creditor may have sold your account. Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC acquires debt from original creditors or may service existing debt.

Our policy is that we will request the credit bureaus delete the tradeline approximately 30 days after the final payment has been posted that resolves the account as paid in full or paid in full for less than the full balance.

Because each credit bureau determines your credit score, we do not know how a payment might impact your credit score.

Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC utilizes third party collection agencies and other vendors to service some of the accounts we own.

We may report to the credit reporting agencies if we have acquired ownership of your account and if the account is within the permitted reporting period. We provide account information to the credit reporting agencies every month.

You will need to let Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC know that you are granting power of attorney or authorization to another individudual or entity to handle your account activities. Please send documentation with your actual signature, showing that you have granted authority for someone else to act on your behalf.

The faster you act the less chance the ID thief has to do more damage to your credit. Creating a website login and password will make it easier to view your account and use the website in the future.

A website login will reference only one JCS Reference Number. If you have multiple JCS Reference Numbers with Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC, you can create a new Web Login for each JCS Reference Number. You must use a unique email address with each website login. If you do not have multiple email addresses, additional accounts can be accessed by using the JCS Reference number and either your social security number or your date of birth on the My Account page.
